We just got back from our annual Big Bear Mtn. trip for some fun in the snow. Fortunately, it has been a great year up in the mountains with plenty of snow on the mountains for those seeking fun in the snow. The snow runs are going strong and plan to be open 'til mid April. We headed to the mountains in search of snow tubing. This year, Grandma Becky and Tony came with us for one night. We were only there for the weekend (Sat & Sun nights). The last 2 years that we have gone, we were happily surprised with snow storms that came through covering the ground with a couple of inches of snow. This year, we were not quite as fortunate but it did lightly snow on Sunday, but not enough to cover the ground. The weather was beautiful most of the time, it got pretty cold in the evenings. The boys squeezed in some fishing both Saturday evening and Sunday morning. They were like popsicles out there fishing and didn't catch anything, but that doesn't stop them from trying!
We ended up going to a place called Alpine Slide, which is one of the snow play areas that you would drive by on your way into town. Aside from having snow tubing, they have year round Alpine sliding (kind of like bobsledding), go karts, mini golf and water slides (summer). This was the first year that Lincoln could go both snow tubing and on the alpine slide. He did OK, he's still a little bit young to fully enjoy the rides, but he still seemed to have a good time. Leyton of course loved doing both of them, screaming the whole way down the hill. We didn't stay and play as long as we had hoped for because both boys had napping issues. We hope that next year will be even better.
We weren't quite as lucky on the ride to and from Big Bear this year. Lincoln got sick in the car just as we got to Big Bear Lake on Saturday and Leyton got sick in the car soon after we left the lake coming home. Their poor car seats took a beating. Lincoln was great considering what happened. He let out a little burp before it all started and heaved a couple of times and once he was done he just sat there, no crying at all. Leyton got sick because he was watching a movie as we were driving down the mountain and had told us that he felt "hot" right before he started heaving. He cried afterwards because it scared him, but settled down pretty quickly and after getting all cleaned up got back in the car and soon fell asleep. This was a first for us. The kids have been on many car rides through the mountains, this was Leyton's 3rd time to Big Bear and Linc's 2nd. Hopefully this won't happen to often on future vacations. Just got to remember to get them to look out the window if they are awake so that the motion doesn't get them sick again! All in all, it was still a nice trip, but of course never long enough.
