Today was Linda's Mom's birthday. We had a simple dinner celebration at Linda's parent's house. The best part about the celebration was that all three daughters (Nancy, Angela & Linda) and their families were able to be present, which hasn't happened in a while. Linda's Mom works long hours, some of which is brought home to finish during the week and even sometimes she works on the weekends. It's difficult to plan an outing with her in advance since she is unsure of her work load most of the time, so planning a birthday outing was challenging, unlike it was for Linda's Dad's birthday.
Of course, Linda's Mom is much more sentimental then Linda's Dad, so since we knew it would be difficult to plan an outing with her, we made a personalized gift for her that she can take with her wherever she goes. We got a canvas tote bag from Michael's (craft store) that had 4 plastic covered photo sleeves on one side. We put the hand prints of each of the grand kids (Leyton, Grace & Lincoln) in fabric paint on the other side of the bag and included their names and age at the time of the hand print. We also titled it "Ba Ngoai's Pride & Joy". (FYI: Ba Ngoai means grandmother on the mother side in Vietnamese.) She loved the gift and especially liked that she could change out the photos, which can get updated as time pasts. Even though we didn't get to go out for a special birthday outing, we all appreciated having a nice quaint dinner with all the family where the kids could be themselves. And we gave her something that she could use everyday and that will remind her of the joys in her life... her grand kids. Happy Birthday Ba Ngoai!
