It's taken us over 2 years (since we moved in) to finally really dive in and do some landscaping and backyard projects. The biggest achilles in our side has been the area right off our back deck. It has been a playground of fine dirt for the past year and it's gotten very painful to continually clean up after the boys as they tromp back into the house. No matter how much we brush them off, somehow they still find a way to sneak in some dirt in their pockets or hidden in their socks or between their toes. We have an outdoor shower to attempt to remove as much dirt from their skin as possible, but we don't normally strip them down to their undies unless completely necessary, plus during the winter it was a bit cold and cruel to do that to them.
Finally, after a long debate back and forth over artificial turf or tile, we decided on pavers. We didn't just want to lay any old brick or stone down, we decided to at least make it something we'd want to look at. We went with an antique cobble stone in 3 varying sizes and 2 shades of color. We hired help to install the stone, with most of the prep work performed by Leon. We are very happy with how the stones turned out, of course there's a couple of things we might have changed but at least now we have a solid surface that we can place our tables and chairs on and an area that the boys can play and not drag dirt back into the house. Plus after laying the pavers, it seems like the area is much bigger and useful then it was before!
One major project done, checked off our list... onto the next... what will it be?
